Dorothy Sims

Dorothy E Sims serves as Business Writer and Editor for CSN Artist Collab. She earned a Master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Management and provides Public Relations services for Sharon Baptist Church (SBC) via the Public Relations Ministry. Her tasks vary including; create and assist with editing SBC’s Press Releases; make successful contacts with Newspapers, TV and Radio Media which results in public awareness of events, special occasions, and opportunities at SBC.

She is a member of the SBC Drama Ministry where her play “Hear My Cry” was performed. Dorothy serves in the ministry as actor, writer, and other capacities as needed. She also wrote vignettes for SBC’s 75th Anniversary, SBC’s Women of Grace Retreat, and SBC’s TWIST; for the youth.

As PR Director for Freedom Choir of Philadelphia (FCOP) Dorothy connected the group with individuals, churches, and businesses who provided great exposure and opportunities. Appearances included but were not limited to; local TV channels; churches throughout the Tri-State area and beyond; colleges; Warm Daddy’s; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Juneteenth; the Black Family Reunion in Fairmount Park; the Fourth of July Celebration at the Belmont Mansion House Museum; (the late President Audrey Johnson Thornton deemed FCOP as the House Choir), Welcome America events; Penn’s Landing Festivals; Odunde;, and the annual “Celebration of the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” with the Quakers of the Downingtown Friends Meeting House.

Dorothy wrote and co-authored a few original musicals performed by FCOP. One such co-authored play is “Believe”. FCOP toured the East Coast with this production from such locations in Philadelphia as the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Walnut Street Theater; the Prince Music Theater; to Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina; Atlantic City High School in New Jersey; and The Grand Opera House in Wilmington Delaware.

FCOP not only sang and produced original exhibitions, as a young group they also marched and sang at demonstrations to bring awareness and change to Black equity and other civil rights issues. One of the most gratifying FCOP opportunity was when the group sang for the late President of South Africa, Nelson Mandel when he was awarded the Liberty Metal from President Bill Clinton in Philadelphia. Another gratifying experience is when FCOP delivered Thanksgiving Day Baskets to Philadelphia families in need. The group was grateful to bring joy to families and put a smile on so many faces.

Dorothy sang in the production choir for the play, “I Know What Prayer Can Do”, with such artist as Jeffrey Osbourne, Howard Hewett, Tony Terry, the Williams Brothers, Lynette Hawkins Stevens, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Shirley Murdock, Keith Washington, and Glenn Jones. The production was presented at the Mann Music Center.
Dorothy also provided PR services for the American Women’s Heritage Society at the historic Belmont Mansion House Museum located in Fairmount Park. This historic House Museum is a “must see” as it houses the Underground Railroad and is filled with rich history.

In addition to a playwright Dorothy is an experienced actress, published in three editions of Moonstones Annual Poetry Ink Anthology, and author of her first published book, “Through A Mother’s Eyes: The Ups and Downs of a Cure.”
