A 2021 Poet in the Debra Wright-Publication “Philly Jawns: A Tribute to Nina Simone; 2020-Performer and Recording Artist participant & an original member of the Teddy Pendergrass Band, noted in the Teddy Pendergrass documentary, “If You Don’t Know Me.” Sherry Wilson Butler continues to thrive in her dual roles as a Music Educator and Performing Artist.
Currently Wilson Butler teaches privately, & as well at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz. Wilson Butler performs regionally and nationally & is booked throughout the year.
Sherry’s Musical Foundation and current professional career enlists her credits as a Performing & Recording Artist/Entertainer & Educator-vocal teacher & coach, music educator, lyricist, educational administrator, actress, commercial voice-over talent, and short story writer.
Her career spans over 30 years in the music industry, and 20 years in education. She has performed and recorded for some of the most high-powered recording, radio, & television studios, along with numerous world-renowned artists to include: Al Jareau, Bootsy Collins, Billy Paul, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, Gerald Veasley, Monnette Sudler, John Blake, Derrick Hodges-bassist w/ Terrance Blanchard, trumpeter-Duane Eubanks, Justin Faulkner-drummer with Branford Marsalis, the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, and percussionist Doc Gibbs, among others.
Her travels include the United States, East-West Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. A favorite on the Jazz, and R&B Festival circuit, Sherry has performed at the Cape May, West Oak Lane, Rehoboth Beach, Anguilla, West Indies Jazz festivals-and numerous festivals worldwide Sherry’s work is exemplified in a diverse repertoire of upbeat contemporary jazz, R&B, pop, and gospel selections.
Wilson Butler has been winning in music & education for years. Her accomplishments include: Finalist
for the Savannah, GA International “Vocal Sing” and Washington, DC’s “Jazz Network.”
Additional Awards: 2016 Lil Drummaboy “Groundbreaker Award” for lifetime achievements, success, & dedication to music; and cultivating the talents of numerous aspiring artists; 2016 African American Museum Music Legacy Award; 2015 NAACP Vocal Talent Judge; 2015 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity’s African American Women Achiever’s Award; 2015 GEMA Best Vocalist Award; 2015 Clef Club Jazz Awards Chair; 2014-15 Philadelphia Mann Music Center-Al Jarreau Teaching Artist Residency; and she was awarded the “2013 Clef Club Jazz Award-Best Female Vocalist” by the Philadelphia Clef Club For Jazz & Performing Arts.. A part of her legacy includes her Gold and Platinum Award for her vocal performance on Teddy Pendergrass’ CD “It’s Time For Love.” and Sherry’s Educational Experiences- Phila. Clef Club of Performing Arts, Perkins Performing Arts Center, Moorestown, NJ; Musicopia, Inc.
As well as her work as a top-notch Student Affairs Administrator at Bryn Mawr College among other recognitions. Master Vocalist, Sherry Wilson Butler is a well-respected veteran in the music industry. Wilson Butler is the proud mother of Rechelle Lynn Delgado/mother in-law to Jose’ Delgado. She is a Diamond Life member, and Past Chapter President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Valley Forge Alumnae Chapter.
